Graceful Aging: Skincare Tips for any Age

If you think you are too old to worry about appearance and skin care because you are no longer in your teenage years, you are sadly mistaken. Beauty has no age limit. You can look and feel your best at any age. Don't get me wrong, youth is beautiful. It is the peak of your glory days but there is something about a timeless woman with salt and pepper hair who owns her confidence. That's essentially what it's all about; owning who you are. Let's get into it!

20's Hunnies

Your 20's is a time to build the foundation for your style, your personal life, and your skin. You may even make some mistakes along the way. One common mistake women make in their 20's is not taking care of their skin. Yes, even your youthful glow needs special attention.

Here are a few tips to making sure we keep the signs of aging at bay:

  • Sunscreen, sunscreen, SUNSCREEN! Don't let harmful UV rays create early aging signs and skin cancers.

  • Moisturize to the gawds! Find a great moisturizer that hydrates without leaving your skin feeling heavy.

  • Sleep makeup free! I had a nasty habit of sleeping with my makeup on because I wanted to just "touch up and go" in the morning or I was just too tired to wash it off.

  • Create a healthy diet for yourself. Sure, burgers and fries are tasty but too much of a good thing can create a major problem in the long run.

Your 20's is a time to experiment and see what works best for you. You're young and fabulous already and we just want to preserve what ya mama gave ya ;).

Flirty 30's

Here at Sugar + Chique, we are in the flirty 30 club! If you thought your 20's were great, your 30's are even better. You are a little older, a little wiser, and even have some experience under your belt. However, you do NOT want to look like you are experienced. You are still youthful and vibrant. Honey, we want to continue to serve face with and without makeup!

Here is some tips that will still have them asking for your license when you order drinks, lol:

  • Under eye cream! This is a must now (unfortunately). This is something most of us cannot avoid now. Keeping that skin under the eyes moisturized can reduce the appearance of crows feet and under eye darkness (which can be genetic).

  • YES! You still NEED sunscreen!

  • Try some supplements that will help bring out that inner glow along with the healthy balanced diet. Now is the time to really take charge of what you put into your body.

  • Stay hydrated! Drink plenty of water and mind your business.

  • Don't forget to exfoliate at least once a week.

The 30's really are the new 20's and we want to keep it that way! Let's make sure our skin continues to give what it is supposed to have gave.

Fabulous 40's

I've heard your 40's are even better! By the time you hit this age, you are so sure of yourself and (for most) women, your confidence is through the roof. You own what you have and who you are and there is no stopping you.

But at this age, the flashy eye shadow colors and matte/dry looking skin are out the window. You want to have healthy looking skin and makeup should look natural and flawless. Which is why skincare is everything.

Here are few tips that are sure to keep you looking your absolute best:

  • Primers are great for any age but most definitely when you are in your 40's. Primers create a layer of protection between your skin and your makeup. The less tension on your skin the better.

  • Keep your skin moisturized and hydrated. Moisture equals less cracking in the skin.

  • Start using products that have Vitamin C.

  • Under eye brighteners help out a lot. This helps with dark circles that you may be experiencing. Bonus, it makes you look more awake and ready to go.

  • SPF and sunscreen is always a must!

  • Up your exfoliation game up to 2-3 times a week.

Less is more at this age but the wardrobe honey, can be spicy. We'll do another post in the future explaining the fashion side of things.

Fiesty 50's

I mean, you queens are to blessed to be stressed. To make it into your golden years is a true blessing in today's world and these days you feisty ladies are killing it. Take a look at J. Lo, Regina Hall, and Halle Berry, just to name a few. All taking 50 and fine to a new level and giving it new definition. You ladies are aging like fine wine and showing these young ladies, you are not sitting court side but are in the game.

Here are few tips to keep you on the go and letter these young babes know:

  • SUNSCREEN (Are you guys seeing a trend here?!)

  • Since we are on the topic of sunscreen, please check with your PCP or dermatologist to make sure there are no skin cancers.

  • Healthy diets are key at this age. What you put into your body definitely shows.

  • Anti-aging products can be your best friend.

  • Be careful when applying or wiping your under eye area because the layer of skin there is very thin.

  • Soothe your dry skin. Dry equals wrinkles (not uhn, no ma'am).

Sexy 60's

You ladies are the standard for the past, present, and the future. Your style, your grace, and your class keeps you youthful and vibrant. Just like in your 20's, these are the years to just enjoy who you are because honestly you only need to do the bare minimum.

At this age, we are just enhancing the beauty that is already there and keeping your skin youthful and strong with these tips:

  • Eyebrows are life. Having the right shape of brow to frame your face. This can also help you look younger too.

  • Sleep is your best friend. Being well rested helps your skin and overall health in general.

  • Spend more time with skin care. Harsh chemicals can really do a number on your skin so try to find products that help to tighten the skin and not dry it out.

  • Loving your locks and keeping it healthy and strong can also make you look more youthful.

  • carry a genuine SMILE.........getting to this age is a blessing.

The most important tip at any age is to smile and love on yourself. Taking good care of your skin and outer appearance can make you feel good. However, never forget to take care of the inside as well. You mental well being, emotional health, and also eating a well balanced and healthy diet. These are all things that not only help you feel your best but look your best.
