Hair problems? Don't sweat it! How to beat the heat with these protective styles

Updated: Mar 29, 2019

Let's face we all want beautiful, healthy hair but sometimes the summer heat has a way of messing up your summer slay. Protective styles not only preserve and protect your natural hair but also helps preserve your slay hunty!!! So here are 3 wide range style ideas that are sure to not only protect your hair but help you look your best.

STYLE #1: Braids. Braids are my go to when I want to protect my hair and look stylish at the same time. They keep all of your hair intact for at least a month. The twenty-8teen, summer braiding style seems to be the "Lemonade" braids; made popular again by thee Beyonce'. She got us all in formation when she rocked these in her 2016 classic visual album, 'Lemonade' (hence the name). Box braids are another popular style which was arguably bought back on the scene by Solange. Whether your style is box braids, Fulani braids or even faux locs, your summer style will on point (no pencil) while protecting that scalp girl!

STYLE #2: Weaves/Wigs. This is a perfect way to let that hair free fall in the wind while keeping your ends protected from wind damage underneath. You can also express yourself in so many different ways without the full commitment. Some days you may opt for a jet black bob, taking it back under Rihanna's umbrella and other days you may want to sport 26 inches of full on blonde goddess. Sews ins, 27 pieces, crochet, and lace fronts can help versify your style while your tresses remain tucked safely underneath. However, ladies please make sure we secure that wig before the wind blows, mmmkay?!

STYLE #3: Au Naturalle. Wearing braids, weaves, and wigs are most definitely FABULOUS!!!! However, wearing your own hair can be very liberating. I mean who can resist the feeling of a free scalp, hunnaay! There are several ways to rock your natural locks, curls, and coils and still slay the summer away. Twist outs, wash and go's, the dutch/goddess braid, a high puff, or just a regular, degular, schmegular afro are all low maintenance styles that can help keep your hair healthy. The best part of it all is you can maintain the style for at least 3-5 days and who is not going to be in their head every morning? (whew, child! the struggle). Besides the less manipulation to the hair, the better.

What style will you be rocking?
